Shosholoza
Out of stock
The pipe reminded me of an old steam engine or “stimela” in the Nguni langauge.
There is a very popular song in South Africa – almost a second national anthem – called “Shosholoza”.
The sound “sho sho” uses onomatopoeia and is reminiscent of the sound made by the steam engine.
One line of the lyrics goes, “Stimela siphume South Africa” (The steam train that comes out of South Africa).
